How to make your first WordPress blog post.
Here are the steps to create a blog post. These steps are for people that are new to blogging and new to WordPress. To make a blog post on WordPress you do not have to know any coding or have to be a computer guru to figure this out. Yes, it will take some getting use to it, but you will be able to do it successfully if you follow these steps.
First you will need to log in to the dashboard, you should have received your log in information from me already. This will consist of the log in link, user name and your password. If you do not have this please email me and I will get that sent out to you.
Once you log in you will be on the Dashboard page:
This is just an information page about the setup of your WordPress site.
On the left hand side you will see the side panel of all the titles of the different aspects of the site. For what we are going to be doing here is with the Posts title. Click on Posts and it will take you to the Posts area.
If I have made some posts for you already you will see them listed here, if not then there will be nothing listed.
At the top of the list or in the side bar you will see Add New, if you click on that you will be taken to a blank post page.
Here is how this page breaks down, under the heading of Add New Post is the title bar, titles should be at least 70 characters this way we can get the best result for SEO purposes. Next is the content window, if you use a word processing program you will notice the bar at the top looks like the main tool bar in your program of choice.
So let’s start the post, first thing is make your title, remember it need to be at least 70 characters (or letters) and needs to be clear title about the article that you are writing. Like the title of this post is how to make your first WordPress blog post. This article is all about making a blog post with WordPress. This way Google will not punish you for not having a bad title on your blog post. To know more about how Google works now click here.
Now you need to make the meat and potatoes of your blog post. There are a couple of ways of doing it. The first way to create your blog post is in the content window.
If your internet browser spell checks for you it will work the same in the content window (most of them do) and you can also set heading styles and format the text of post to the way you like it. The other way to make your post, you can create the post in your word processing and then copy and paste your post into the content window.
The most important thing you have to remember is that the post has to be at least 300 words to insure that it can be SEO friendly. Once again we get into the workings of Google. Now for the most important last step of creating your blog post, the Publish button, if you look to the right you will see the blue Publish button. You will need to click on that button to make your post live on your site. Then you can click the view post button under the title button to check the post out on your site. If you see a mistake or you want to change something you can just click your browsers button to go back to the post page to fix what needs to be fixed.
